Flight Delayed or Cancelled? What Happens to Your Booked Istanbul Airport Transfer

Delays, cancellations, diversions and missed connections are part of flying. Here is how a pre-booked airport transfer in Istanbul handles each situation, and what you should do.

No one books a transfer expecting their flight to go wrong. But it happens: a storm somewhere in Europe, a technical check, a slot restriction, a crew that ran out of hours. What matters then is not whether a delay happens, but whether the person meeting you knows about it. Here are the most common situations, one by one.

Scenario 1: your flight lands late

This is the most common case, and the simplest. When you add your flight number to the booking, we track the flight and adjust the pick-up to the actual landing time rather than the time printed on your ticket. You do not need to call us from the departure gate to report a delay; the flight information already tells us.

A booking normally includes a period of free waiting time after landing, to allow for passport control and baggage reclaim. The exact terms are shown in your booking confirmation, so check them there rather than relying on general rules.

Scenario 2: your flight lands early

A tailwind can bring you in early. Because the pick-up follows the flight, this is normally covered as well. If you land very early and pass through the airport quickly, a short message saying you are out lets the driver know you are ready.

Scenario 3: you are stuck inside the airport

The flight landed on time, but your bag did not arrive, or the passport queue is unusually long. Flight tracking cannot see this. The driver sees that the plane has landed and starts waiting. Send a message or call with a quick update. A driver who knows you are at the lost-baggage desk will wait calmly; one who hears nothing has no way of knowing whether you missed the meeting point.

Scenario 4: your flight is cancelled or moved to another day

In this case the original booking no longer makes sense. Contact us as soon as you know your new flight. We can usually move the transfer to the new date and time. Rules on changes and cancellations are set out in your booking terms; reading them before you travel saves surprises.

Scenario 5: you miss a connection and arrive on a different flight

Missed connections are tricky because your original flight number may still land on time, just without you on board. Tell us the new flight number as soon as the airline rebooks you. Otherwise the driver will be waiting for a flight you are not on.

Scenario 6: your flight is diverted

Occasionally a flight to Istanbul Airport ends up at Sabiha Gökçen, or the other way round, usually because of weather. The two airports are on opposite sides of the Bosphorus, so this is not a small detail. Message us as soon as you know, and we will see how the pick-up can be rearranged.

What you can do to make all of this easier

  • Enter the flight number correctly when you book, including the airline code.
  • Use a phone number that will work in Turkey, ideally one with messaging apps.
  • Save our contact details somewhere you can reach them offline.
  • If you are travelling in a group on different flights, book separate transfers.

The departure side

Delays matter on the way out too. If your departing flight is delayed by several hours before you leave the hotel, let us know and we can shift the pick-up. If it is cancelled, we can cancel or move the transfer according to the booking terms.

Book your airport transfer on this site with your flight number and a reachable phone number, and the most common travel problems become much easier to handle.
